Ammon goes to the ER

Poor Ammon fell out of our backyard tree today while I was nursing Clarissa. He gashed his head on the brick border beneath and had to get staples in his head. This is our second trip to the ER in three days! Abe went alone because Clarissa was really fussy and would have been a distraction. Also, I am afraid of racial profiling and being investigated by child protective services. They were super nice to Abe, though. Thank goodness.

Ammon was so brave. When the staples went in, Ammon didn’t even flinch or cry. Abe tried my tactic of talking to him calmly about his favorite subject, food. Ammon was so distracted that he didn’t even appear to notice the staples. When they left the ER, Ammon was holding M&M’s and had watched two hours of television. He declared, “THAT FUN!!”

Also, a big shout out to both Abe and my mom. When the fall happened, I was tied up with Clarissa and didn’t realize it was a big deal until Lydia announced that there was blood all over the back of Ammon’s head. I had no idea what to do and just basically stood there holding Clarissa  while Lydia ran for a towel which my mom held against Ammon’s head until Abe came home three minutes later (great timing). Abe has had a ton of first aid courses, so he took one look at Ammon and knew right away to take Ammon straight to the ER.
